A 6-Car Crash On Highway 120 in Manteca Kills One Man, Others Injured
The Six-Car Accident Was Caused By a Big Rig Peterbuilt Truck
Escalon, CA (October 6, 2016) – A man was killed and five other people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 120 on Monday, October 3, 2016. The crash occurred at about 5:05 p.m. during regular commuting hours on the eastbound Highway 120 at Main Street. Two men and three women suffered injuries of various levels.A row of five vehicles were stopped at the location when the driver of a 2014 Peterbuilt big rig truck was driving towards the cars. The trucker tried to stop but was unable to slow down in time. The trucker first crashed into the back of a 2015 Chevrolet utility truck. The 2015 Chevrolet then crashed into the back of a 1991 Honda Accord. The impact from the big rig was so strong that it caused the Chevrolet to go airborne and land upside on its roof.
The Peterbuilt truck continued to travel forward after the initial impacts and ran over the Honda Accord which killed the driver. The Honda then crashed into the back of a 2008 Mercedes E350, landed on the south side of the road and caught fire. The Mercedes was forced into the back of a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic and subsequently overturned. The Chevrolet then crashed into the back of a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse and also subsequently overturned. The Peterbuilt truck jackknifed and stopped on the south side of the highway. Authorities shut down the highway for three hours prior to re-opening it and The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
