Louis Schaefer Killed By Large Flying Metal Part

Menlo Park, CA (September 19, 2016) - New evidence has emerged in the tragic death of Louis Schaefer, who was struck in the neck and killed by a bolt the size of a baseball when it smashed through his car windshield.

The 82-year-old man and resident of Mountain View was driving north bond on Highway 101 in Menlo Park near the Willow Road Exit on the afternoon of Friday, September 16, 2016. At the same time, a CalTrans water truck was driving south bond on Highway 101 between job sites. The California Highway Patrol says the bolt, the size of a baseball, may have fallen off the CalTrans vehicle and ricocheted across the highway. After being struck, Mr. Schaefer collided with the center divide, eventually coming to a stop. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

We offer our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Schaefer.
