Family And Community Grieve Loss Of Elijah Dunn Killed By Alleged Drunk Driver

SAN RAMON, CA (September 13, 2016) - As the family and friends of a 3-year-old San Ramon boy killed by an apparent drunk driver grieves their loss, the community around them has rallied, the East Bay Times reports. A GoFundMe account has been established by friends of Elijah Dunn’s family. The fund was set up to help pay for living expenses and any loss of income the family may suffer after the tragedy.

On Friday, September 11, 2016, Elijah died when a woman suspected of being under the influence of alcohol drove an SUV into the back of the Dunn’s Toyota Camry around 6:20 p.m. The Camry was in the right-hand shoulder lane after running out of gas on northbound Interstate 680 near Bollinger Canyon Road.

Elijah’s mother remained hospitalized after suffering major injuries. His 1-year-old sister and 11-year-old brother suffered less severe injuries, authorities said. All were wearing their seat belts while waiting for someone to bring them gas, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson stated.  The SUV, a Toyota Sequoia, plowed into them, destroying most of the Camry.

The suspect in the crash, 38-year-old Yarenit Liliana Malihan, of Pleasanton, has been arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.

We offer our condolences to the family and friends of Elijah Dunn, and hope for the complete recover of his mother and siblings.
