Horrific California car crash injures 6 pedestrians By chris on July 13, 2015

A tragic car accident killed at least one pedestrian last month. The incident happened on a Friday afternoon in Viejo, California, at approximately 3:30 p.m., not far from Redwood Parkway.

A police sergeant claimed that a 65-year-old man in a sedan, lost control of his vehicle and drove up onto a sidewalk. His vehicle then crashed into a bus stop and struck a 50-year-old man, who had been waiting at the stop. The 50-year-old man was lucky to survive.

Unfortunately, the sedan did not stop there. It continued moving forward after the bus stop. It struck a phone pole, and then crashed into a small group of pedestrians that included three adult women and two children.

Horrifically, the sedan dragged two pedestrians with it until it came to a stop on the walkway. One of the women in the group was pronounced dead at the accident scene. The other five pedestrians, including the 50-year-old man at the bus stop, required hospital care; their conditions ranged from serious to critical.

According to the sergeant, police suspect that the driver of the sedan was intoxicated at the time of the collision. That means that this accident could have been a DUI event. Breathalyzer, blood and field sobriety test results will serve as important evidence in this case -- since they could be used to convict the driver at fault for the collision.

California pedestrians who are injured in a motor vehicle collision may have the ability to pursue damages in court -- especially if the driver is deemed to be at fault for the accident. Similarly, family members of pedestrians who are killed in a tragic accident may have viable claims for wrongful death damages.
