Asiana to boost pilot skills after San Fran plane crash
South Korea's Asiana Airlines Inc. recently announced that it will strengthen its pilot training program. This announcement comes after the July 6th crash of an Asiana Boeing 737 at the San Francisco International Airport.
An initial investigation into the crash revealed that one of the pilots flying the plane only had 43 hours of experience flying a Boeing 777.
Former pilots of the airline told Bloomberg Businessweek that Asiana pilots were very well trained on automatic landing systems but rarely flew manually. Asiana Flight 214 crashe during an automatic landing after hitting the airport's seawall.
Three people died in that accident.
The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board is still investigating the crash but NTSB chairwoman Deborah Hersman said that there is no evidence that any of the Boeing 777's automated systems malfunctioned.
Several lawsuits have been filed in connection with this crash and the San Francisco Fire Department may also face legal liability after it was revealed that one of the plane crash survivors died after being run over by a rescue truck.
