Trucker blamed for death of Amelie Le Moullac
In our last post we discussed the mounting pressure that San Francisco's biking community was placing on the SFPD after the death of a 24-year-old biker.
Members of the San Francisco Bike Coalition were appalled by the lack of investigation in the death of Amelie Le Moullac and independently found surveillance footage depicting the crash.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the investigation into the bicycle accident is now finished and that the SFPD concluded that the trucker who hit the cyclist was at fault for the crash.
It appears that the trucker made an illegal right turn in front of the cyclist instead of yielding and merging into the bike lane.
"We're satisfied with the conclusion because we believe it comports with the evidence that Ms. Le Moullac did nothing to contribute to this collision," said an attorney representing the cyclist's family.
"The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition is relieved to see that justice in this case is finally moving forward, and that the investigation is back on track," the SDFC wrote on its blog. "But we are still concerned that the lack of initial investigation into this crash raises concerns about other cases where people biking or walking have been killed."
