A decorated San Francisco firefighter has been arrested after a San Francisco motorcycle accident. The 23-year veteran firefighter was responding to an emergency call near 5th and Howard Streets when he ran into a motorcycle while turning his fire truck.

ABC San Francisco reports that the motorcyclist suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Several media outlets also report that the firefighter was arrested for drunk driving.

"There was a vehicle accident involving a San Francisco Fire Department truck resulted in a serious injury of a civilian who was driving a motorcycle," Mindy Talmadge, a fire department spokeswoman, said. "As a result of the accident, one of the firefighters on duty in San Francisco was arrested for alleged criminal conduct."

KGO-TV reports that the 43-year-old firefighter left the scene of the accident for several hours before returning. A breath test was administered, which read .16 percent, twice the legal limit for intoxication.

One police source told reporters that the firefighter was uncooperative during the breath testing but that blood tests were also taken. Charges may follow the results of those tests.

The firefighter has had no prior incidents and has received several honors for rescuing fire victims.
