Police arrest teen after Marin County DUI car accident By chris on March 18, 2013

Authorities have arrested a San Francisco teen after she crashed her car this weekend while driving five of her friends. The accident happened last Saturday around 2:20 a.m. on U.S. Highway 101 near the Waldo Tunnel outside of Sausalito.

Police say that an 18-year-old woman crashed multiple times into the center road divider before going up an embankment and hitting a guard rail.

In addition to the driver, there were three women and two men in the car, all teens. The two male passengers allegedly fled the scene and were not found. Another 18-year-old woman inside the car also ran away but was later found by California Highway Patrol Officers by the Golden Gate Bridge.

Authorities transported one of the remaining female passengers to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in San Rafael with moderate injuries. Another 18-year-old woman suffered major personal injuries including broken bones and face cuts. CBS San Francisco reports that this passenger appears to not have been wearing a seat belt.

The driver suffered a broken arm in the accident, among other injuries. She was arrested for felony DUI and causing injury to another.

Newly licensed drivers are more likely to crash in their first few weeks of driving. CBS News reports that the allegedly drunk teen had her license for about a week at the time of the car accident.
