San Francisco woman dies in AT&T Park cycling accident
A San Francisco woman was killed recently in a cycling accident in front of San Francisco's AT&T Park. Authorities say that the bike accident happened on Saturday morning around 9:30 at the intersection of Third and King Streets. KGO-TV reports that the 48-year-old woman was hit by a cement truck. The truck driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with authorities.
Bay City News reports that the fatal accident happened as thousands of people were waiting to enter the San Francisco Giants Fest. One witness said that a crowd of people was watching the cyclist die and that she was lifeless as paramedics attempted to administer CPR.
Some cyclists have attributed the lack of a proper bike lane in this area as a contributing factor in the crash.
"There is a bike lane on westbound King Street between the Embarcadero and the baseball stadium," one resident said. "However, the bike lane ends with no warning very near where this woman was run over. I doubt that is a coincidence. This is the main route that bicyclists use to get from the Embarcadero to the Caltrain station and the city has to do a better job at making it safe."
