Redwood City brothers die in Foster City car accident By chris on January 31, 2013

Two Redwood City brothers are dead and another is injured after a serious San Mateo County car accident. CBS San Francisco reports that the accident happened on Sunday evening when a 21-year-old San Mateo man lost control of his packed car.

The car accident happened around Highway 92 and Foster City Boulevard. Authorities say that the driver lost control of his car, hit a guardrail, and flipped it. The car eventually crashed into a utility pole, killing the driver. The two brothers, ages 12 and 16, were found dead in the back seat. Their 18-year-old brother was taken to Stanford Hospital with major personal injuries.

The driver's cousin was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle and only suffered minor personal injuries. Authorities say that that 18-year-old was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident. It is unclear how many of the other boys were buckled. Seat belt use is one of the major determining factors in whether a car occupant will suffer severe personal injuries in a crash.

Investigators from the California Highway Patrol said that they are still unsure what caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle. Toxicology tests will be done to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in this crash.
