Two Men Die in Santa Mateo County Motorcycle Crashes By chris on May 24, 2012

Two motorcyclists recently died in separate accidents along the same rural stretch of road in San Mateo County. California Highway Patrol said that the fatal motorcycle accidents happened last weekend on a remote portion of Pescadero Creek Road.

The first accident involved a 57-year-old man who was reportedly well known in the Bay Area motorcycle racing scene. The biker was riding with a group Saturday afternoon when his 2008 Kawasaki left the road and flew down a 70 foot embankment. The steep terrain and remoteness of the area delayed the man's rescue by about an hour.

Paramedics eventually found the unconscious biker using a rope rescue and flew him to Stanford Hospital where he died of his injuries. The man is remembered as a mentor to younger bikers and the author of a book on Sportbiking.

The second motorcycle accident along the same stretch of road involved a 45-year-old Pacifica man who crashed around 3 p.m. by Pescadero Creek and Alpine roads. That crash involved the motorcyclist and a 34-year-old San Jose car driver. The car driver was unharmed but the motorcyclist died of his injuries at Stanford Hospital.

The exact cause of these motorcycle accidents has not been reported.
