Motorcycle rider injures legs after right of way failure
It may seem like a minor mistake to forget to signal a turn or to sneak above the posted speed limit, but even the smallest rule of the road is vitally important. Traffic rules and regulations were created to keep order on streets and highways in California and across the nation. When they are followed, accidents can be prevented. When they are not followed, accidents are sure to happen.
A serious motorcycle accident occurred this week when the driver of a car failed to follow the simple rule of right of way. The driver of the car violated this simple rule, causing a motorcycle rider to suffer serious injuries to both of his legs.
The accident occurred on Saturday morning, March 3, 2012. The California Highway Patrol stated that at approximately 9:18 in the morning, the 33-year-old cyclist from Live Oak was riding his 2009 Kawasaki 900 down the road. A 34-year-old driver of a Chevrolet Malibu failed to give the cyclist the right of way and forced him to lay down his bike as an evasive maneuver.
When the bike slid across the roadway, the driver slid along with it and sustained major injuries on his legs before hitting the back end of the Malibu. The cyclist was transported by ambulance to the nearest location where a helicopter could safely land and continue his transport to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials with the California Highway Patrol attempt to determine what caused the failure to yield. Although there were no eyewitnesses to the crash other than those involved, alcohol and drugs were not suspected as a factor in the accident.
