Woman killed in Big Bear motorcycle accident
Motorcyclists can wear protective gear and still suffer catastrophic and even fatal injuries when an accident occurs. The California Highway Patrol says a 65-year-old woman from Hesperia was broadsided in a motorcycle accident on Highway 18 last week. The woman was traveling westbound on the highway, riding a 1997 Harley Davidson Dyna FXD.
The CHP says a 60-year-old man from Big Bear was driving a Jeep Cherokee northbound on Greenway Drive. Police believe the man failed to stop at the intersection and slammed into the Harley and its rider. Emergency personal received a report of the motorcycle accident within minutes and responded to the scene.
Big Bear City Fire Department paramedics found the motorcycle accident victim clad in a helmet, riding jacket and boots. However, the emergency personnel were not able to save the accident victim. The motorcyclist reportedly was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Authorities closed the highway for some time as they began an investigation into the accident. Initial reports were unclear as to whether either of the vehicles involved in the accident were attempting to turn, or continue straight at the highway intersection.
The accident reportedly occurred Wednesday morning at roughly 7:30 a.m. Authorities say the fatal wreck was reported at 7:33 in the morning. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Authorities routinely conduct investigations after injury producing or fatal accidents. However, experienced motorcycle accident attorneys often need to conduct their own independent investigation into accidents. The state's interests may not cover all the bases for a complete assessment of potential personal injury or wrongful death claims that victims or their families may be entitled to pursue.
