California student injured in hit-and-run motorcycle accident
Police report that a motorcyclist suffered serious personal injuries in a hit-and-run accident just after sunset Tuesday. The victim of the hit-and-run motorcycle accident is reportedly a 21-year-old student from the University of Southern California. Police say a burgundy GMC Safari van slammed into the motorcycle and fled without ever looking back.
The California motorcycle accident victim sustained critical injuries in the wreck. A police detective in Los Angeles says the accident victim suffered numerous broken bones in the crash, including fractured ribs, a broken arm, leg and wrist.
The Los Angeles Police Department issued a press release giving a description of the man police believe was driving the van. The release also noted that California law requires drivers involved in an accident to stop at the scene of the crash. The driver of the van reportedly fled the scene without providing his identity and other details, but also fled the scene of an injury accident without stopping to even attempt to assist the injured victim of the motorcycle accident.
It appears there were witnesses to the crash who could at least call for an emergency response to attend to the accident victim. The university student injured in the motorcycle accident was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. Reports indicate the victim was listed at the hospital in critical condition.
A report in the LA Weekly indicates that one witness to the motorcycle crash Tweeted a message around the time of the 6:40 p.m. accident. The newspaper says the witness Tweeted the message, "Hit-and-run felony Lexington and Vermont-Vehicle vs. motorcycle... vehicle took off. Totally UNCOOL."
