1 Person Dead After Watsonville Electric Scooter Crash
What should families know after a fatal electric scooter accident in California?
A 38-year-old man has died after a serious electric scooter collision involving a pickup truck in Watsonville, California.
According to local reports, Watsonville police and firefighters responded to the crash around 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday near Second Street, just west of Rodriguez Street. Emergency responders found the man badly injured on the pavement in front of Watsonville Fire Station 1.
Police said the crash involved a Dodge Big Horn pickup truck and an electric scooter. The driver of the pickup remained at the scene, and authorities temporarily closed Second Street between Walker Street and Rodriguez Street while they investigated the collision.
According to Watsonville police, the man was riding an electric scooter when he entered Second Street from the Rodriguez Street sidewalk area and was struck by the pickup. Police also reported that the man was wearing headphones at the time of the crash. The impact reportedly threw him several feet from the point of collision, while the electric scooter ended up underneath the truck.
The injured rider was taken to an out-of-county trauma center, where he later died from his injuries. His name has not yet been released.
The crash remains under investigation.
